Sherry Hughes

Pastor of Education & Spiritual Development

The youngest of 12 siblings of the late Johnnie and Lenear Tait, Elder Sherry Hughes relocated from Burntcorn, Alabama to Jersey City, NJ after the death of her mother at the tender age of two. It was the inspiration and nurturing of her oldest sister, Carrie, which opened her eyes and understanding to the knowledge of God. Elder Hughes received salvation and immediately baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church at the age of fourteen. Filled with a passion and desire to know God even the more, Elder Hughes was baptized by the Holy Spirit and began to dream prophetically.

Elder Sherry Hughes has a strong utterance that minister to a wider scope of needs. At NLBOCC, she serves the highest level in the prophetic realm, the office of the prophet. In addition to walking worthily of the calling placed upon her life, with grace, she is an effective preacher who is committed to proclaiming God’s Rhema word across the pulpit edifying, exalting, and comforting God’s people and being that prophetic voice for the Kingdom of God. Elder Hughes is a dynamic leader and teacher not only in ministry but in the surrounding urban cities who impact the lives of students by developing programs, mentoring, as well as, educating aspiring teachers.

As a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, Elder Hughes graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 1991. Furthering her education and career, she received a Master Degree in Early Childhood Education from Montclair State University in 1998. She is currently enrolled in the Doctoral degree program in Educational Leadership (ED.d).
Elder Hughes also serves as an Early Childhood educator. She has impacted the lives of children for 20 years. As an advocate for youth, Elder Hughes is a member of NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children). She has received much recognition in her field as a “highly effective” teacher in the Jersey City school district.

Elder Sherry Hughes is the wife of Deacon Leonard Hughes. God blessed them with amazing children who are gifted and serve weekly in ministry, Leonard Aquil, Charish Shyann and the “Bishop” Elwin Arthur.
Isaiah 6:7-10” And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, lo this hath touched thy lips: and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Also, I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, here am I: send me” … My soul desire is to do the will of the Father.
